Opulence meets comfort in award-winning Wentbridge House Brasserie
It’s not only the accommodation and food at the Wentbridge House Hotel that is winning awards. The refurbishment of the venue’s Brasserie scored for its design team at the 2023 Northern Design Awards.
Judges said the Leeds-based Studio Two team won its category for delivering a space that was “both cosy and elegant” and featured a “dramatic colour palette”.
Working with the concept A Romantic Tale of Robin Hood, the designers paid homage to the history of the Wentbridge area, drawing in the rich colours of the surrounding West Yorkshire countryside that was once home to the fabled English outlaw. Yet, you’ll also find a nod to the opulent Georgian era and a few touches of art deco glam, in keeping with the building’s story (Wentbridge House dates to 1700).
Studio Two co-founders, friends Zoe Wheatley and Lauren Milner, say their aim with design is to explore how culture and the way humans use space come together. In the Wentbridge House Brasserie, they’ve landed on a clever, eclectic mix where guests can relax in luxurious comfort. There’s an open fire, windows overlooking the terrace and gardens, raspberry velvet banquet seating, perfectly placed cushions … all in keeping with the Wentbridge House reputation for attention to detail and personal service.
The food, of course, is the main reason you’re here and, of course, you won’t be disappointed. The Brasserie menu offers nourishing and wholesome dishes, using seasonal produce, simply prepared and beautifully presented. Enjoy a grilled Dovecote Park rib-eye steak and a glass of red wine in the winter; in summer, be tempted outdoors by a salad on the terrace. Artisan gins and hand-crafted cocktails are served at the bar, or simply pop in for a coffee or tea.
Wentbridge House Hotel has won AA awards for both its food (2 Rosette standard) and its wine (AA Notable Wine List), among a host of other hospitality, venue and tourism accolades.
